Ok...I have had sudden onset of joint pain that started in one thumb. within 3 weeks my whole body...evry joint is affected. Sometimes there is so much pain and stiffness I cannot move. Repeated lab work has shown a negative RA but elevated ANA (132), elevated sed rate(29), low tsh (0.01), low mono and eosinophils. The ana and sed rate increase with every new draw. The pain has subsided somewhat since starting my period and discontinuing a drug named feldene. I am 32 and feel like I'm 102. Every joint is affected except my elbows. I see the rheumatologist, for the first time tomorrow. But my own physician acts like she doesn't beleive me and I'm nuts!! But clearly the labs state there is something going on. I can barely walk, write or just roll over in bed. My family doc has given me prescritions for darvocet and vicodin. I really don't like taking these. If it is lupus are there any effective treatment that don't include alot of high dose pain killers?

Please help!!!

I'm 43 and had a sudden onset of joint pain several months ago (particularly knees and wrists). Was so painful, I could hardly get out of bed, but it hurt to lay in one position too long. Doc thought it was RA, but blood test was negative. Also had the butterfly rash which is classic lupus symptom. My doc won't diagnose this as lupus yet since alot of my blood work was negative, but she's calling it a lupus-like disease. If it is lupus, the doc will probably put you on prednisone which should help the joint pain. I'm on prednisone and hydroxychloroquine. Everything I read indicates it's hard to diagnose lupus and everyone has different symptoms, particularly the rash. I still have a rash after 3 months of treatment. Good luck and I hope you get some relief.
