irregular periods after weaning from breastfeeding?

User Profile
I stopped nursing my 12 month old in December. My period returned for the first time in January. My period was normal. However, two weeks after my period ended, I started bleeding again, very light, light pink and brownish blood. I am currently taking Micronor for birth control. Is it normal to have irregular periods after weaning from breastfeeding? I also had my left ovary removed in October because of an ovarian cyst. Thank you for any advice!

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum.
The light bleeding/spotting that you describe could suggest ovulation bleed, breakthrough bleeding, hormonal derangements, uterine polyps, etc. The exact cause for the symptoms that you describe can only be made out after careful evaluation (complete blood & hormonal work-up, ultrasound scan etc). Consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist at the earliest for thorough examination and further evaluation to look for the underlying cause for the abnormal bleeding that you describe. Treatment as appropriate (based on examination findings and investigations results) would be started to help you regulate your periods. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Drink plenty of water. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle.
Take care.
