I am 19 and have had my period since I was 10. When I was 12 doctors put me on birth control because my periods where so heavy that was becoming very anemic. They ended up taking me off of the birth control because it only made things worse, but for the next year I did not have a period. In that year the diagnosed me with bipolar, hypothyroidism, pcos, and then pretty much told me that I would stay anemic most of my life. I started taking meds for all of the above{and have stayed on all of the prescribed meds, plus iron tablets daily)but decided to try birth control again. My periods where worse than ever. They have always been irregular, but not to the point of...well I can wear adult diaper plus the largest tampon made and still have to change every 45 minutes, or else(and as you can imagine, already being bipolar and the lack of energy from being hypo plus lets add on crazy anemia to that.. did not exactly help my mood out any, or my relationship with friends and family). I did try the birth control, except I bleed like that for 2 and half months straight, leaving me even more anemic and over exhausted than ever. My doc at the time said that I just need to time to let the pills regulate me, but I couldn't have a life at all. I was sleeping 18 hours a day, up for 5 and ready to sleep again and even more moody than ever. I am off the birth control and I am not bleeding for months at a time, just every two weeks(or what I can make of the irregularity. So now after my life story, my question is... well any sugestions?
I really want to get a hysterectomy, but it is very difficult to convince any doctor to let a 19 year old get one.

My sister had similar problemsfrom the time she was 13. But my mom was afraid she would see taking the pill as permission to have sex so she never let her go on it. Stupid, I know. We just tried to manage it with iron pills and an iron- rich diet.
Have you considered or talked to your doctor about the Depo-provera shot? It eliminates periods completely within a year. So, maybe this will work better than the pill.
