I have suffered from irregular hearts beats for many years in different forms, ie either extra thuds or missing beats.. Recently how ever i have been getting beats where if i put my fingers to my neck to feel my pulse i can actually feel my heart stop for a second, the only way i can describe it is as if you have taken a breath in, then because i panic my heart then starts to beat rapidly after the missed beat, but now it has started doing it in runs say for instance, mainly first thing in the morning it will do about 3 or 4 stopped beats in a row, by the time its stopped im shaking and my heart is racing because of the panic that my heart isn,t going to re start.. i take tylex, omeperazole, i have recently stopped drinking to excess and now have a glass of wine maybe every couple of weeks, i am a smoker, smoking around 20-30 a day..Its affecting my life now because im scared to go out in case it happens, and if it happens when people talk to me i have to just stop talking and they look at me like im mad. Does anyone get the same thing and if so what do i do.
very scared

My mother experienced the same symptoms for many years, and was diagnosed with arrythmia (which is simply a term for irregular heartbeat). She went through many dignostic tests, including and EKG, heart monitor and catheter. I suggest that you follow up with a cardiologist who can diagnose you...it's possible also that one or more of the valves of the heart is not operating fully, as is the case with my mother.

irregular heart beats
Thankyou for your message, i have seen a cardiologist many years ago and had to have a 24hr monitor but then i never had the beats as bad and none were picked up..I have been to my gp 3 times now asking to be referred back but because i was quite a drinker at the time and suffered from depression to the point where i tried to kill myself on a few occasions they put it down to that and just wont listen to me anymore...............

Hi emsasim. I think you might want to find another GP. I'm sorry to hear about your time with depression. It's difficult to feel good when you have low energy and feel sad. I suggest that you treat this like a new problem, seek a new doctor and try to find a diagnosis. Make that your goal, and you will succeed.
