I was born with a heart murmur, then when i was 15 the doctors noticed a second heart murmur (they are located in the right artery, and left ventricle, the most common places)
lately, (I'm 18 years old) i have been experiencing sharp, stabbing pains in the left side of my chest. Sometimes they are so strong it knocks me out of breath.
I also have odd heartbeats, It feels like my heart goes crazy, out of tune, and is totally out of control!! it is extremely uncomfortable, not to mention frightening.
I sometimes get dizzy and out of breath (this might be because of lack of sleep though)
I really don't know what to make of this.
I enjoy the medical field, and desire to study it one day, but i cant make anything of this, except arrhythmia, and I don't think i qualify for that.
ps. my pulse is usually down in the 45-55 per minute

please help.
thank you nurse

I would suggest seeing your doctor. He may ask you to wear a holter monitor, which records cardiac activity over a period of time. It's not uncommon to feel a bang in your heart, but the dizziness and shortness of breath could be a problem. Dizziness could indicate decreased blood flow, which in turn may be caused by heart problems. Pulse is a little slow, but normal if you are fit. Of course, it could be nothing in particular, that's why I'd recommend the doctor Smile.
