Hello, my blood work shows major iron problems. My iron saturation is a 4, yes 4 the iron binding capacity is 427 and iron its self is 17.total protien is 6.7 WHATS GOING ON?
I am tired, fatigued, dizzy, no sexual intrest, nothing but sitting or sleeping.
I did have bariatric surgery about 5 years ago and some malabsorbtion does exsist but I have tried every iron suppliment on the market and drink a protien drink daily of 35 grams of protien.
Thank you.

Welcome to e health forum.

Your iron levels appear to be very low (Normal levels ‎60 - 160 µg/dL ‎).

This could be due to intestinal malabsorption defects associated with intestinal atrophy. Other conditions that can be the cause of iron deficiency can be parasitic infestations (Eg. Hookworms)

A consultation with a gastroenterologist for endoscopy studies and biopsy of the intestines can confirm the underlying cause for malabsorption.

In such conditions instead of oral iron supplements, you may need parenteral iron injections, which will help in improving your iron levels.

You may consult with your doctor or a hematologist for a examination and proper treatment.
