Q: IQ test: What is means and is it accurate?

Heh every1, I got a 146 on an adult IQ test when I was 15. I'm almost 17 now and I was wondering if I would get a significantly higher score if I took it now? Confused

Anyways, I was wondering wut everybody thought of the validity of the IQ test, I personally think its nonsense since:
1. IQ test measures mainly analytic intelligence, and only a narrow field of analytic intelligence
2. IQ test seeks to measure "inherent" mental ability, something that is fundamentally unable to be measured 100% accurately
3. IQ tests assert that after adulthood, IQ is unchangeable, I think intelligence (even fundamental thinking skills, and not knowledge of facts) is able to grow through life Wink

you might get a higher score, it depends on what you have learned since then. I also agree with you on allyour points about how it is nonsense. I do not think it is ocmpletely inaccurate though. It just has some downfalls to it.

I've learned a lot since then and I felt that my overall emotional/life smarts, social smarts, critical thinking, logical thinking, etc. have gone up quite a bit Smile

Ya, that's true, humanity is kind of hard pressed to find an alternative test to the IQ test....However, I think a longterm analysis of analytic, creative, and practical inteligence beats the IQ test Smile

I have never staked very much in IQ tests. Sure, they may tell how intelligent someone could be, but sometimes when someone has an extremely high IQ, they can lack better social abilities which are more important to living a decent and civilized life.

As far as IQ not being able to go any higher, I don't know about that either. Maybe as far as the test is concerned, but we learn something new every day whether we realize it or not. With age also comes wisdom. I would rather be wise and sociable than intelligent too.

intelligence will only get you so far in life, your are going to get alot farther by your social interactions and wisdom, like mominashoe was saying. I too woul dmuch rather be sociable and wise than be overly intelligent.

Ya, I agree. That's why I spend as much time on socializing as I do with studying Smile

Lol, I took it again over spring break, it counts now since I'm 16 and the adult IQ test is accurate for me. I got 3 points higher to make it 149, lol. I thought I would get a lot "smarter", but whatever. I'm a lot socially and emotionally smarter than I used to be and that's wut matters more Wink

IQ test isn't a great intelligence test anyways, its mostly analytic intelligence and only a slim aspect of analytic intelligence at that. It doesn't cover creative, practical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, etc. intelligence

I have never taken an IQ test, I consider myself smart and thats all that matters Smile i was actually one of the smartest people in my grade (quizbowl team and everything, lol) but i cannot take tests like that, i will do bad. PLus, like you said it doesnt cover so much it does on ly cover the analytical intelligence

Lol, I'm confident about my intelligence as well. I just like taking IQ tests to see if my analytic abilities have gone up (although solving math proofs or a long-term assessment like math/science grades is probably more accurate, lol). What's quiz-bowl? We don't have that at our school Sad I think we used to have debate club but now that's disappeared Sad

it is a competition with all the high schools in our conference, you get together in team of 4 and they ask questions on every subject you could think of. In middle school, there was only 3 people on my team which could have 5 and we killed evrybody for 2 straight years. and then I was on the varsityteam in high school and we didnt win, but it was close ( iknow i am a dork, lol)

That sounds so fun! I love answering questions about every subject I can think of! Oh well, even if my high school doesn't have that, I can always try out for a trivia TV show, lol Smile

I got the highest grades in my class of 15 in my Freshman year. I always managed to stay in the top 5 no matter if I was taking Calculus and Physics. I just took an IQ test on facebook...I don't know how accurate that is, but I scored a 117. I have no idea what that means, but oh well lol. I think some of the questions are stupid....yeah, I'm smart enough to think that lol Wink

My brother is the smartest person I know. (And I know a lot of very smart people.) He always used to tease me by saying that he got the brains and I got the cleavage. After I lost all that weight, Coliejo, there was nothing left of my ‘talents’. I trip over them when I undress. Lol.
He reads books on nuclear science for fun, and he knows everything about everything. In detail.
The thing is just, and I’ve noticed this in a lot of very intelligent people, he has the social IQ of a brick. Lol. But at heart he is a stunning person.

Lol, that's why I like Howard Gardner's multiple intelligence model better than the IQ model. Gardner divided intelligence into intrapersonal, interpersonal, body kinesthetic, musical, spatial visualization, mathematical-logical, naturalistic, and linguistic Smile

the only person I know who is a genious and actually has a social IQ higher than like 5 is my mom's boyfriend. he went to the school for the gifted and talented and kknows so much about anythign you could imagine. He too reads those kinds of books for pleasure. I think i would like the multiple intelligence model better too

Lol, I also read nerdy books about proving math theorems, organic chemistry, etc. But I'm not a genius among the geniuses or anything, but I guess that's okay since I can work on fulfilling my potential in other areas that a good number of super-geniuses ignore Smile
