The most sensitive pregnancy test is a blood test for the presence of beta human chorionic gonadotropin. HCG can be detected in the blood as early as 2 days before your period is due to arrive with a blood test.

HCG is also detected in home pregnancy tests but is most accurate when used 1-2 days AFTER a missed period. Errors in home kits which are urine based can occur if the urine is too dilute; if the test is incorrectly administered (not in your case); or if a urinary tract infection exists.

Perhaps check with your GP to test for a UTI? Or be sure that you don't drink too much water before testing? Does that help?

A uti does not affect a pregnancy test.

Be sure you are taking the test correctly. Maybe urinate in a cup and dip the test into the cup instead of trying to pee on the stick.

Take the test FIRST thing in the morning, the concentration of hormones is highest in the morning.

Sorry. Ingi is right. A UTI will not interfere with a pregnancy test. Pregnancy test detect hormones, not infections. Thanks for the clarification!

Thanks for the info. after being 6 days overdue i spotted for two days. i had been lifting some heavy boxes for work 35-50 pounds each. I'm not sure if that helped to get me started or not. Once I stopped lifting, the spotting stopped. I am assuming this is my period- yeah!!!
I am still having some odd symptoms but I think they are related to my pills.
very sensitive breast -( my husband is really enjoying this) My stomach has a full feeling to it - i guess you would say bloated. my pelvis area and stomach also get sore and tender after sex.

any ideas ladies?????

I'm not saying yes or no, but with my first I spotted very lightly and thought "oh good i'm not pregnant" plus the home pregancy test was negative. the next month after missing my cycle again I took another test and it was postive. come to find out i was 16 weeks pregnant instead of 9 like I thought

IDK if I am pregnant. I have taken 4 pregnancy tests. All showed an invalid result. all 4 were different brands. But I haven't had a period in well over 1 year. & I was on the Depo-Provera shot, but stopped it on July 1, 2008. Today's date is November 9, 2009. I had an "period" (I'm naming it for now)It lasted 2 days, & went on & off.... I only bled a total of 8-9 hours. & it was spotting. My husband & I have been having unprotected sex, but are not actively trying. I have gained weight & have been nauseated for a while. When shopping I was asked by a female cashier if I was purchasing the milk (ect) with WIC. I have been asked by many women if I was & other related questions. But I haven't been able to get a single negative or positive result from an at home test, & I havent even seen a Doctor since September of 2008 due to lack of money. If anyone has been through this, or u know someone who has, I would love any information (Facts only Please.) on possible causes.
