It is impossible to provide a specific diagnosis over the Internet, especially with the limited information that you have provided with your inquiry. In general, however, recent and significant changes in bowel habits, particularly in older adults, require further evaluation to rule-out colorectal cancer and other potentially serious disorders. While changes in bowel habits are more often associated with non-cancer GI disorders (such as reactions to changes in diet or stress levels, or due to irritable bowel syndrome, for example), these changes in your stool could also be a sign of a more serious problem.

You should ask your personal physician to provide you with a consult to see a GI doctor for further evaluation of these changes in your bowel habits.

Sincerely/ Robert A. Wascher, MD, FACS
