I have had a problem with back pain for the last 10 yrs...... It normally occurs when i have been asleep. When i wake i find i have great difficulty moving, turning over and even breathing in. I also have a strange mottling effect on the right hand side when i have a back massage. The mottling is only in the area that i get the pain. I dont know if this is connected.
I have been to the hopspital on many occaisions but they cant seem to find the reason for this but it is getting worse.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

thanks

sarah

hi sarah....boy ten years and no answers. i have never experienced your problem but i wonder if it could be a case of shingles. shingles is usually on one side of body and does produce a rash in the area of pain. antibiotics are the usual treatment. sure hope you find correct diagnosis....pete

Thanks for the reply Pete....
It's definately not shingle. Wish it was, then at least I'd know. Ha ha.... Its not a rash I get. Its just a slight mottling effect when I have a back massage.
The pain is so severe when I wake (every mornig, and during the night) that I'm only getting a few hours of broken sleep each night.
Surely someone, somewhere has had or has the same problem as me.... Or am I just unique ha ha.

you know what, that is exactly how I have been feeling lately... its just been a couple of weeks though, but its horribly painful.
I find it hard to stand straight after sitting for around 5-10 min.
Doctor gave me two tablets and a cream. The cream is named... oxalgin nano gel (although it burns a lot for the first 10-15 min time since applying)
I hope you get well soon (and me too Razz)

Why not seek out an evaluation with a spine specialist, either an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in spines or a neurosurgeon that specializes in spines only?

They are the best at diagnosing spine issues and that may be where you find the answers for both problems.

Good luck and let us know what the doc says.

I don't have the mottling but I do suffer from chronic back pain. Things are not going so well for me trying to get doctors to figure out what is wrong, then again the doctors here are not that great. My best advice is to find a doctor that will get x-rays, MRIs, or CT Scans of your back. If you can't find out what is causing it don't give up keep fighting. I know it is hard and frusterating because of all the problems I am having but keep trying. Good Luck!
