Q: Intercourse not pleasurable
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 29th, 2009
I'm 21yrs of age, and have been having intercourse for the past 3 years now. I'm unfortunately unable to feel anything inside though, and not finding intercourse very pleasurable. I don't have orgasms and unable to feel my boyfriend inside me. This also tends to make my boyfriend feel incapable and me feeling broken or something. Deep penetration also causes a uncomfortable pain low in my abdomen though. Is there something wrong with me?? Please help.

Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth's Ask a Doctor forum.

Your symptoms (not enjoying sex, unable to feel your partner inside you) could be due to low estrogen. Sometimes hormone replacement helps.

Pain during intercourse can be due to various causes such as UTI and vaginal infection or vaginitis, a tight vaginal wall, sores at the mouth of vagina or vestibulitis, vulvodynia or a dry vagina, thrush or fungal infection , pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, irritable bowel syndrome, pelvic tumors, cervical and uterine infections and tumors.

A PAP smear, hormonal panel and a STD panel must be done too. It is difficult to comment beyond this on net. You can discuss these possibilities with your gynecologist. Hope this helps. Take care!
