I had MVA with local anaesthetic at 5 and a half weeks; I had been told I would experience 'mild discomfort' and 'period-like cramps', but during the procedure the pain was much worse and didn't feel like cramps, more like sharp pressure deep inside. The injections were bad enough, but during the main part of the procedure I was crying out and asking them to stop by the end. I had no complications, other than that my blood pressure dropped quite a lot, so they had to keep me in recovery for longer, and pretty soon afterwards I had only mild cramps and slight bleeding. Is it normal to have so much pain during early MVA with local anaesthetic, or am I just a terrible patient? I have never had children, or a smear test, and I also noticed that the doctor didn't seem to pause at all between administering the injections and starting the procedure, so perhaps this affected things? Also, could the fact that I was in a lot of pain and presumably moving around a bit have reduced the efficacy of the procedure or caused something to go wrong?

Hi, I have a 2 abortions now. I was awake for my surgical and was moving around a lot, I was just freaking out for no reason, I ended up being fine!
Cramping is normal, your uterus is going back to the pre-pregnancy size. I never even went to my follow up for the surgical, and I was fine. I even got pregnant again, which ended in a medical abortion (I should have done the surgical). Just go to your follow up if you can, so your doc can reassure you that you have no infection (rare).

Also, please remember this is a very simple procedure, and it will have NO impact on fertility. Just take it easy, and try not to surf the internet too much, there is a lot of misinformation. Please message me if u have any questions. Relax, and trust that you are FINE.
