My sister was insured with Kaiser permanente for 2 years. She applied for the bariatric surgery program eating healthy losing weight and a unwent a pschyological exam and was diagnosed with depression and biploar. She then underwent Bariatric surgery and has lost 150 lbs making her a much healthier person but still needed plastic surgery which her Dr. told her was medicaly nessecery and was to udergo the surgery January 2009.Upon renewel of her policy she was cancelled.Kaiser called the above prexsisting conditions. The only prexsisting condition she had when she applied for the insurance was diabetes in which she discloed to Kaiser and is now gone due to her weight loss.So what I am asking is.Can the insurance company cancel her, and call the above prexsiting when she had the same insurance the whole time. She has applied to other ins companies and no one will accept her

If I'm not mistaken if she has had no lapse in coverage and it is just a renewal then there should not be a pre-existing clause.

I would challenge their decision and also cc the State Insurance Commissioner.

Since this has happened to her it could be happening to others as well and Kaiser does not have the best reputation of being fair (to put it nicely)....
