Hi All,

I am suffering from a back injury where my sides have spasmed and have become hard and stiff and I also injured my rectus abdominus(six pack) and have swelling there also and also I think in my intercoastal muscles. I have been to the doctor a few times and he told me it will heal on its own. I have seen no progress, it's been more than 2 months. When I stretch a little, I feel a little better, but when I wake up in the morning, my body is very very stiff. I also suffer from shortness of breath due to the injury. Now, I am thinking of getting some professional help, which one should I go to, chiropractor or physiotherapist. Please advice.

All answers are appreciated. Thanks !!

Its difficult for us lay people to tell you which type of medical professional to see i would usually lean towards a chiropractor but they are not all good and i can see no real way to help you find a good one you seem to be describing muscular problems people with back conditions usually have both joint and muscular problems you seem to be describing mainly muscular problems is your spine stiff and sore as well as your muscles? swelling in the rectus abdominus area is something that is not usually associated with a spinal problem have you done something lately that may have caused an injury in that area.

Hi Rollar,

Thanks for the reply !! I did yoga 2 months ago and tweaked my back that's why I have the back injury. My doctor did x-rays and told me that my lungs, ribs and spine are fine. I think that my muscles are injured, I don't know if my joints are also involved in the injury. Please advise me with the next steps.

Thanks.

I cant really advise you on the next step, a coarse of physio or chiro is probably the next logical step, if your first choice does not work then try the other one i would lean towards chiro but you do not have much information to go on, if yoga did not work then maybe you need some manipulation or mobilization before you attempt more exercises, ask around is there anybody you know who has good judgment and can recommend someone good either chiro or physio, from my experience most therapists whatever the kind of medicine struggle to treat back problems effectively you need a diagnosis before you get treatment sorry if my advise is vague but if i told you that you have such and such and a visit to so and so would fix you i would be talking crap you may need to persevere and be patient or you could get lucky and be treated successfully first up you probably just have to try a course of action and see what happens ask whoever is treating you what the problem is and how there treatment is going to benefit you x rays don't really show much its pretty common for people with back problems to have normal or near normal x rays postural problems such as scoliosis are common but doctors or radiologists rarely comment on them any way john1985 its really in your hands its up to you to find someone who knows what they are doing and elicit a positive outcome from them

good luck
