So I had surgery yesterday and I wanted to share my experience.

so about 1 year and 8 months ago I got an inguinal hernia while doing yoga ( yeah no kidding)so since I'm going to live outside my country for one year (I'm supposed to leave on August 23rd) I decided to have the surgery before leaving, to avoid having complication, like strangulation and the such. Anyway yesterday morning I had the mesh surgery, now after reading this forum I started to freak out, I didn't know there were so many problems with meshes :S, now the first night I was in a lot of pain and discomfort, but since this morning until right now (8:22 PM) I feel great, no pain, well only when trying to walk, but is not that painful, my right groin (where the hernia was) is quit swollen but I suppose that's going to change after a few days.

Well my question is what's the probability of having mesh complications? 15% 50% 75%

I will continue posting about my progress.

The reported complication rates associated with mesh inguinal hernia repair include a 1 to 2% risk if infection or bleeding, a 3 to 5% risk of chronic pain or numbness in the area of the surgery, and a 5 to 7% risk of hernia recurrence.

As you can see from these statistics, most people do very well following this type of surgery.

All right so today 48 hrs after the surgery I feel rather good, I was able to go to the bathroom by myself, there's almost no pain, but still my groin and my scrotum are swollen, now I'm going to try to take a shower by myself.

Knee Pain post inguinal hernia repair
I had my surgery also on 22 Jun. Left side inguinal with incision and mesh patch. 2days after surgery, woke up with pain behind left knee - couldn't straighten nor bend knee more than 90 degrees w/o pain. Went back to hospital for a venus doplar check for blood clot which was negative. Now 4 days later severe pain above the left knee cap, other pain persists as well. Vicadin, aspirin and ibuprofin all no help. Pain around incision really not bad, yeah when i over extend, but also it's kinda numb around that whole area as well as the top part of left leg leading to groin. Any comments Doc?

Well, my pain behind the knee and above knee cap has magically disappeared yesterday. However, today, 7days after surgery, woke up at 5am with severe pain in left foot. Can't lift toes and extremely difficult to stand or walk. Waiting for doc office to open to call in, probably another ultrasound test.......

it's been 8 days since the surgery, they removed the stitches and I'm feeling good, I was able to walk to the park and back, was kinda tiering but I think I'm making progress, the area is still a little swollen as well as my scrotum but I think is reducing by the day.
