Hi I am 18 years old and have had what I believe to be a hernia in my scrotum for about 4 years. At first I was scared and embarrassd about it so I told no one. It hasn't caused me much trouble until now it is becoming very uncomfortable and frustrating at times. The only reason I haven't told anyone about it now is because I am concerned with the cost of the surgery. Me my mom and dad are all employed at our family owned business, my mom just quit her job 3 weeks ago and we lost our health insurance, dental coverage, etc. When she did that and are now in the process of getting all those benefits back with our own business. So once we get insurance I am going to tell them about it and get it fixed. The reason for writing this is I have one major concern. The hernia is inseperable from my left testicle, it's almost like the tissues formed together or something.... Is this even possible?? It decreases in size when I lay down so that leads me to believe that it is in fact a hernia but the whole attached to the testicle throwse for a loop and I can't remember if it has always been like that. Any and all responses are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Mate, I'd advice you to go to the Doctor and have surgery. I have had a hernia since I was 15/16 and I'm 25 now - I didnt have any problems with it really, but the last few days it started hurting around my abdomen and felt like it had grown all of a sudden - I went to the Doc's and will be having surgery to get it sorted within the next couple of weeks.

It's important to actually get it sorted before there are any serious complications take place, such as it getting trapped and 'strangled' by the bowl which can cause gangrene and you'll need emergency surgery. This should be a good enough incentive to get it sorted now dude, and you'll have the added benefit of piece of mind.

I dont have health insurance but that will NOT mean I have to find some cash from somewhere to pay for surgery - either will you. Just go to the doctors and see what he says... man it boils down to this: whats more important being alive and healthy or being in a situation by leaving the hernia alone, that could possibly cause complications and lead to emergency situations later on? There's no question...just go to the Docs and have him check it out, dont worry about money, put your health first, thats a priority.
