Hi -

In Spring 2007 I had a laparascopic repair of an inguinal hernia.

It recurred in late 2007, and in December 2007 my new surgeon recommended an open mesh repair.

Well, it recurred last week again (Sept 2010). I am seeing a surgeon next week. He's a laparascopic specialist. I am wondering if it is possible to have laparascopic hernia repair again given I have already had it once. Could scar tissue and whatever is left of the previous mesh be complicating factors?

Thanks for any help.

Without being able to examine you, I would only be speculating in trying to answer your question. In my view, a lot would depend on WHERE the anatomic site of recurrence is, as this would somewhat dictate which approach I would consider for your next hernia repair. (Certainly, 2 prior mesh repairs will make the management of your latest recurrence more challenging.)
