Q: Informed consent

In Maryland, pro-choicers have pushed for a bill that would require so-called “Crisis Pregnancy Centers” to inform women that they are not health care providers and that they are under no legal obligation to tell the truth. In practice, these centers routinely lie to women in order to coerce them out of terminating their pregnancies. They pose as health care providers when they aren’t, offering ultrasounds but not having qualified doctors on site to actually read them. They flat-out lie about abortion and contraception.

So it would be nice if they were required to tell the truth, but of course that won’t happen. The last part of the article, though, is pretty great:

Delegate Joseph Bartlett, a Frederick County Republican, said the centers should be able to continue to operate normally.

“The premise that we’re going to require these organizations to disclaim that they don’t have to tell the truth is just about the silliest thing I ever heard,” he said. “We certainly don’t do that in the case of politicians, do we?”

Well, no, we don’t, but perhaps we should.

Yeah, we should. And what; is she claiming that these crisis pregnancy centers are politicians?

Imagine that...

Crisis Pregnancy Center:
"We're not doctors, but we feel you should listen to us..."

Planned Parenthood Clinic:
"We ARE doctors. How do YOU feel? We will listen to you."

I've seen ads for the Crisis Pregnancy Centers, and I must say, anyone who's considering an abortion wouldn't dare go to one of them. They're so anti-abortion it's not even funny. However, I understand that in a "crisis", a lot of girls wouldn't use the common sense I'd apply to such a situation, so I agree that these centers should be forced to say that they AREN'T doctors and they do give biased advice and their advice or any medical statements (regarding ultrasounds and whatnot) may be WRONG. Good post Jincks Smile

Isn't it interesting the anti-choice crowd wants 'informed consent' for abortion but doesn't feel the same need for themselves. Hypocrits.

Why though? It's not just about being unable to bear the pain. There are dozens of reasons women abort.

An embryo is not a child.

"Child" can mean offspring so yes, an embryo technically IS a "child". Is it a child according to the educational development tables? No. But the basic definition of child is offspring, and an embryo fulfills that definition.
