Current medical status: depression and asthma
Current medical treatment: welbutrin proventil
Both wellbutrin and pristiq are used in depression treatment. But they have different places of effect in the neurological transmitters reactions (the chemicals that coordinate the impulses between the nerves).
Wellbutrin (generic name: bupropion) belongs to aminoketones. It decreases the neuronal uptake of dopamine in the CNS. It also diminishes neuronal uptake of serotonin and norepinephrine.
Pristiq (generic name: desvenlafaxin) belongs to serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. In older people, increased ocular pressure (angle-closure glaucoma) must be excluded when administering desvenlafaxin.
One of the most important facts is that both bupropion and desvenlafaxin are not to be administered at the same time with drugs from the Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor class. Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor medications are used in treatment of depression.
