Ear, Nose and Throat Disorders Answer A5269

Current medical status: My ear started itching and along with a cough & cold and then the next day it felt like something gurggling in my left ear with a little pain. It pops if i yawn or belch.

According to the symptoms you reported, you might be experiencing an inflammation of the middle ear accompanied with an inflammation of the Eustachian tube and the throat. This situation is not uncommon considering that all three organs are physically connected and the inflammation easily spreads. The fluids produced due to the inflammation can cause the feeling of “gurgling” in the ear. The inflammation is often caused by a virus in which case only medications to reduce the inflammation and ease the pain are recommended. If the inflammation is caused by bacteria then antibiotics are needed, also.
