Q: Inflamed tonsil

hi, i think i've got ONE inflamed tonsil... the left one. there's a lump and some throat pain in the mornings with difficulty swallowing. by the evening the inflammation subsides. if i take ibuprofen (400mg) will that suffice? what should i do before going to a doctor?
