Q: Infection lead to hearing loss?

I have had a cough for over 6 weeks now. Around the three week mark my sinuses started to get congested. Around the four week mark, my right ear started to feel like it was plugged and I noticed minor hearing loss. I went to the doctor around this time and he told me that there was wax build-up in my right ear and it looked like the ear drum was a little congested. He started me on Amoxicillin. After about a week I hadn't noticed any changes in my symptoms. Also at this same time i noticed my left ear was started to act the same as my right ear. So i called my doctor and he started me on Avelox three days ago. I still haven't noticed any changes. What I have noticed is there is a constant high-pitched ringing in both ears and I am noticing I'm not hearing things as well as I used to. What could be causing my hearing loss?

I am having something quite similar. I do have a common cold and I feel a post nasal drip at the back of my throat. My doctor put me on antibiotics for 10 days and I have finished the course; I feel these antibiotics have done any good. I still am not hearing at all in the right ear and now occasionally the left ear feels a little uneasy meaning that sometimes I get a few shooting pains. At first, I had a severe ear ache. The severe ache left after I took 2 Aleve. I wonder if your problem is connected with any kind of cold. My doctor, who is an internist has suggested that I see an ENT professional which I will do immediately. Be patient and watch those antibiotics!
