infected belly button piercing
I can't tell you if you should leave it in or out but if it's infected, I would definitely get it taken care of asap. Any infection can lead to very serious medical problems. I would ask yourself which is more important, the belly button bar or your health. I would also use tea tree oil on the infection to help heal it.

Are you kidding me??!?! TAKE IT OUT!
Let the infection heal, let the hole close up, and you can always get it redone.

Keep washing with Dial antibacterial soap-the orange kind.

Did you call the place that pierced you? I would recommend doing so. Or better yet, go there and ask for advice. They are the most knowledgeable about piercings and infections. They may even offer to redo it for free after it's healed.

Take it out
I would take it out. Have you tried a medicated soap called AFT-3. Provon Antimicrobial Lotion Soap (4oz.) it's made by Gojo That stuff should really help and Are you allgeric to any metals? You might want to go to the doctors so they can give you something for the infection because an infection like that can easily get in to your blood stream.
Now if its infected you make sure it doesn't turn gain green or black because if it does GO ASAP TO ER because that is a serious condition so serious you can die if you don't get treatment its Called Toxic Shock Syndrome kinda like what you get from leaving your tampon in too long.

You're not supposed to put any ointment on a fresh piercing, I'm not sure who told you that.
The best thing to do is let it scab up and heal on it's own. When you're in the shower, just wash the piercing gently with Dial antibacterial soap (the orange kind).
Call the place where you were pierced and ask for after-care instructions.
If it ever becomes oozy, or changes colors, take the piercing out IMMEDIATELY and seek medical attention.

Don't take it out! Clean it with it in. Do 2 to 3 salt soaks a day and clean it with an anti-bacterial. If the infection keeps going dilute some hydrogen peroxide and hold it on there until it stops bubbling. Don't do this very much it can prevent the healing.
