Q: Increased discomfort after eating and stomach disorders
asked by: DoctorQuestion on May 2nd, 2008
What could be causing this discomfort which is becoming chronic? MD says not likely to be related to AAA. Colon exam normal. Have had GERD in past, this is definitely not the same. No indigestion, no nausea. I am afraid to eat much of anything due to increased discomfort after eating. I have no increased gas, actually less gas. Would appreciate any help. Thank you

Stomach, Ulcers, Gastric Bypass, and Colon Disorders Answer A
Increased discomfort after eating could be due to a stomach disorder like gastritis or peptic ulcer. A gastroscopy to evaluate the stomach may need to be done. A blood test for Helicobacter pillory is also required because infection with this bacterium is usually connected with chronic gastritis. An abdominal aortal aneurism (AAA) is a serious condition and its treatment has priority above stomach examinations. That cyst on the pancreas could indicate chronic pancreatitis which can be also manifested with abdominal discomfort.

You may want to consult a gastroenterologist about this.
