In quarentine? Posted: 06-04-08 15:20pm
Today, my mom's dog got into a fight with
another dog while she was outside going to
the bathroom. they fought really hard and
the other dog was bleeding. The other
people called the police on my dog. My mom
and I had to leave, so we weren't here
when the police came. There was a note
under the door that said "your dog is in
quarentine, call us"
what does that mean? we were very curiious
and scared to knwo what is going to happen
to her

It most likely means they took him to an
animal shelter/animal control/have him
being held somewhere. They probably saw
him as a danger to the neighbors dogs and
others so wanted to hold him. I'm so
sorry to hear about this. How scary! Please
keep us updated. Hugs

I'm not sure to be honest what they do.
I'm assuming it depends on a case by case
basis. Your dog didn't kill another
animal or attack a human, so I'm assuming
they won't but I really don't know. I'd
give them a call asap if I were you just
to see whats up and hopefully ease your
mind.

My mom took our dog outside this morning
so she could go to the bathroom, we have
never had a problem with her not being on
a leash in our yard. our neighbors walked
by with their 2 dogs and Mia ran after
them, one of their dogs snapped it's leash
and ran after Mia too, they both bit each
other alot before we could break them
apart. Their dog was bleedy, Mia was just
in really bad shock.
Their dog has come over in our yard before
without a leash and when the owners were
not even with it, and they fought so I
dont see why they want to make a big deal
about this.

well i would tell the cops that the
agressor is not necessarily your dog and
tell them about the neighbors lack of
concern and car of their animals. i think
in most states its the law that dogs must
be on a leash in the city---weather on a
walk or not. and not only that that dog is
trespassing you could call the pound on
that dog--perhaps it would teach them a
lesson

I'm trying to make sense of what I read,
so forgive me if I'm off.....what I
understand is that Mia was using the potty
and these dogs walked by...she started to
chase them and one got free and
unfortunately they began to fight.....now
she is being required to spend time in
quarantine. That is not an unusual
requirement when animals fight. I'm sure
she will be fine but you may consider
obtaining legal representation. I hope
that Mia is fine and that everything turns
out well.

She is fine, they are going to keep her
for 10 days and my mom gets a ticket. They
were supposed to cme get her on friday but
they said they had way more important
things, so they would ifnd time sometime
or they would make arrangements to somehow
let her be quarentined at our house. I
dont knwo how that works but it sounds
like everything is going to be alright

I used to work at an animal shelter, so
let me give you some info from the
inside..
The way it worked here (not sure of what
the laws are in your area), is when animal
control picks up a potential aggressive
animal, they HAVE to keep the dog for a
minimum of x days. The reason is they are
assessing the dog. They are testing it for
aggressive tendencies, and also doing
medical evaluations. After the hold, the
owner is allowed to come pick up the
animal. (Again, not sure about the laws in
your area) Here, they are not permitted to
release the dog to the owner without the
animal being spayed or neutered but that
is only if the animal was picked up in the
city.
They will need to see proof that the dog
is up to date on rabies shots too. They
quarantine the dog for 10 days to make
sure it isn't infected with rabies.
