Q: Implantation bleeding or spotting ?

I haven't had a period since October due to me having the Implanon birth control. Which is the birth control in your arm, not the shot. I've had it in since October and have been having unprotected sex with boyfriend. And about a week or so ago, I started bleeding but when I say bleeding I mean not enough to wear a pantyliner or anything it was just a dark brown blood clots. And lasted for about two weeks. Which I'm wondering if it was implantation bleeding or just doing a spotting session, since I've never spotted before. I've also been having major lower back pains, and abdomen lately. But I've also been sick for a couple days with a fever and stuffy nose. So I'm not sure whether I'm actually just feeling the sickness or what... I'm 18 years old and overweight if that helps.

Implantation would by no means last for two weeks. It usually only lasts 1-3 days.
Your symptoms could be part of a larger issue, and although pregnancy is unlikely, it should not be ruled out. Implanon is very effective; but, of course, no method of birth control is 100% effective.

I would see your doctor. Firstly, some methods of hormonal birth control must be administered in larger doses for people who are overweight, since some methods are marketed for the "average" person. Secondly, it seems to me that your symptoms COULD be because of a hormonal imbalance. Or, maybe just your body expelling old blood (which is what brown blood is). Heavy cramps and back ache would also NOT accompany implantation bleeding.

Either way, this seems like a more complicated problem. The best advice I can give is to see your doctor. Good luck!
