Hello:

My dentist told me a year ago that I have four impacted wisdom teeth. I have yet to remove them, most due to the fact that it hasnt bothered my until that last ten months. I have on/off pressure at the base of my neck and middle of my forehead, Pressure on the roof of my mouth, and on/off lightheadedness. these symptoms present themselves most while I am martial arts training....Can wisdom teeth be causing this? The CT scan already ruled out a sinus infection....Maybe the wisdom teeth are causing TMJ? Thanks for all your help, and let me know if you experienced the same symptoms.

Hi jmcman13!

As far as I know, wisdom teeth can cause a whole host of symptoms that might seem unrelated to teeth, at first, but once you get them removed, you realize how much they were affecting other health issues.

It is absolutely possible that the wisdom teeth could be causing TMJ or it is also possible that your wisdom teeth have nothing to do with it and you are experiencing TMJ for other reasons.

Do the gums or other areas around the wisdom teeth hurt or feel sore at all? Do you feel any pain or stiffness from the neck traveling up behind the jaw and up to behind the ear area? Any headaches or earaches?

I know you mentioned you already had a CT scan, but have you seen a doctor (or dentist) and discussed the symptoms you've described here?

I don't know alot about TMJ aside from my own (limited) experiences and what I know about martial arts training is also pretty sparse, but there are voice cues in marital arts, aren't there? Certain sounds that you make when executing certain moves? If so, perhaps TMJ is the issue due to the rigidity of the jaw and muscles while you're training? Obviously, I'm no expert, but it's a thought...

Good luck; I hope you get some answers and keep us posted!
