Ok for the last week or so my right side of my mouth has been killing me. I thought it was the lump thats in my cheek..which i still dont know what it is...but its really my wisdom teeth. It has been causing me soooo much pain to the point that it has me up at 5:30 in the morning. So i went to the doctor to get some pain medicine and he gave me Tylenol #3, which isnt really working. He told me I have impacted Wisdom tooth. Now, i have braces, and today i have an orthodontist appointment, do you think they will pull it?? Does it hurt?? And, Is all this swelling normal? I have like a bigg lump near the tooth and the swelling is starting to go down my gums which is starting to dig into my wires. =[

So please, ANY suggestions on stopping the pain would be SO helpful!!
And the answers to my questions

Thank you!

Your orthodontist isn't the one who will take out your wisdom tooth. You will have to see an oral surgeon for that one.

Why didn't your dentist give you an antibiotic to help with the swelling/infection?????? You really need that to help relieved the pressure/pain and stop it from spreading until you can get into surgeon.

Tylenol#3 sucks for tooth pain - you might be better off taking 800mg Motrin. Ibuprofen is better for tooth pains - you can buy over-the-counter and take up to 800mg every 6 hours. 800mg is prescription strength.

Side note - you mentioned a lump in your cheek. Most of the time this is nothing more than a blocked salivary gland but I had a patient last month who had one. We took a panoramic x-ray and it showed up black on the x-ray. She had it biopsied and it was Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. SInce then they found it in her stomach too and she has started chemo with a 99% chance of survival.

I am assuming your young due to the ortho and wisdoms so oyour odds are great its nothing to worry about but mention it to the oral surgeon - they are the best to evaluate that too while your there

Hope this helps - lauren
