Q: Imflammation from yeast infection ?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 15th, 2009
Hello,
I've had what seems to be a yeast infection for over a week now. It started off as just a minor itch in the inner labia. The more I itched it the more it got inflamed and red and I noticed my discharge would clump up in the creases. My urethra is very inflamed and sensitive and inner labia is inflamed also, and it itches off and on throughout the day. The discharge does resemble cottage cheese, but that only started after I took a store bought anti-fungal and used Vagisil. First I got a generic form of Monistat with no result. Then I used regular Monistat a few days later. For a day or so it seemed to have cleared up, but not its back again. I've had about 3 yeast infections in the past which have cleared up right after using Monistat. I've also had problems with UTI's. I've had 2-3 within a year. They've gone away on their own. Is it possible its not a yeast infection? And if so what else could be causing the inflammation? What should I do next? Thank you for any advice.

According to the data you provided, you might be experiencing fungal infection. Taking antifungal medications is the recommended treatment. You might want to consider the fact that fungal infections need treating for longer period (instead of few days) and if not treated completely, the infection can worsen again and the symptoms can come back.
