im 16 and this has been going on for about two or three years now. i will randomly get sharp stabbing pains in my left or right lung and cannot breathe deeply at all, it happens even if i am not active and just sitting down. coccasionally it helps if i lay flat on my back and breathe short breathes and wait for it to go away. about a year ago i had one of these random pains and i couldnt move or barely breathe. ive never been to a doctor about it but am worried maybe there could really be something wrong

Though you don't mention it, statistically you are most likely to be a female. If you have what I think it is, it is called a "precordial catch" and is a sharp pain under the breast, usually on the left. When it occurs, it is painful to take a breath. I discuss this syndrome on page 44 of my book Chest Pain When and When Not to Worry. The book is available online from Amazon or Barnes and Noble in both new and used (inexpensive) copies.
In any case, it is a benign syndrome and falls into the "not to worry" area.
