My son graduated from U of Arts in Pa last May to become a screen play writer for film and T.V. He moved to Calif with a classmate. Has been writing a lot and still looking for a job. Recently he has been complaining of being depressed. Losing sleep and not eating according to my wife. He doesn't really talk to me ( his father) about these feelings. His first step was to ask my wife for a doctor that is covered under her plan that he could go see. Read some causes which could be due to a move. Would he all of a sudden feel a loneliness even though he went out with a classmate? He knows in 10 months that he will be living on his own due to the lease coming due. This he expected going into the lease. He likes his apt and the surroundings. Is he comteplating this in the future and dwelling on it? He does not know why he is depressed. If he does not know how can I help and what questions can I present without him saying " I got to go now". Faced with a lot since being out there incl the possible tsunami warning from Japan. He called that day to talk and we got him through it. Feels coming home and going back out would be bad. I kinda think he needs people around him and finds it difficult to be on his own. Need possible solutions on what I can do to help.

Hello and welcome to e health forum.

It is usual for young adults, to feel a bit out of place in a new location or get depressed when their goals are not met (Eg - finding a job). But these are short lived and will pass off soon.

For proper diagnosis of a persons, condition , he needs to be seen and examined by a doctor, and with proper counselling, his issues might be solved.
