I take a nap and suddenly i feel pain?

User Profile
Hello,

Im 23 years old and recently in the past 5 months i've been having what i think is "sleep paralysis". I take a nap and suddenly i feel pain and im aware im sleeping and try to wake up. The harder i try the more painful and scarier it gets. I also see everything as it is in real life..Sometimes it mixes up with wuts not real (i see a person or hear noises that arent actually there). Whenever i think that i've managed to wake up, theres a force pulling me back to my sleeping position (which varies)and i realize that i didnt actually wake up. It really hurts. I know when its coming but i cant stop it :( I have them everytime i take a nap!! I didnt take a nap all last month & so didnt experience it till 2day when i decided to take a nap. I remember i had one when i was 15 and stopped for years..now its back. What could the reasons be?

Thank you for ur time.

Hello and welcome to e health forum.

The history described here is insufficient to diagnose a serious condition such as sleep paralysis.

Additional history and physical examination might be very helpful to rule out other common medical conditions that mostly arise as a result of abnormal sleep hygiene or psychological or emotional stress.

Additional testing with sleep study or a electromyography (EMG) might also be helpful.

You might consult your doctor or a neurologist for additional advice and proper treatment.

I hope this helps.
