I had unprotected sex twice on the 18 of january.He pulled out both times that night and I am on the Nuvaring and have been on it since 2007. My period was supposed to arrive on the 12 of this month(february), on the 10th I started bleeding and I thought I had gotten my period but instead I spotted for about 3 days. I have never missed a period since being on the nuvaring. I took a pregnancy test the morning of the 12th and it came back negative. I've gotten pregnant on birth control before but that was with the patch which is why I stopped using it. Today I noticed some excess discharge. I just dont know what to think. When I was pregnant the first time I tested negative on urine over and over again yet my blood test came back positive and the NP informed me that sometimes marijuana can cause a false positive on a blood test and though I wasnt doing the drug, my ex-husband was around me. Any input would be very much appreciated.

Well, first of all I know that second hand marijuana smoke can not effect tests.
Is the test you took on the day your period was supposed to start (the 12th) the only one? Sometimes it can take about a week for hte hcg to show up. So maybe try again in a week or two.

I believe that if you start your period within 3+/- days of your expected start date you are considered normal. Also, I know long term pill use can cause many women to have lighter periods, or sometimes no periods at all. I am not sure if Nuvaring is the same?

At this point your doc might ask you to wait another month to see what your next period is like. But if you are worried you can request a blood test.

I would take a couple more tests at home. And given your past history of getting PG on birth control, I would give your doc a call and ask these questions. They are the only ones who can help and accuratley diagnose.

Thank you, I did take a blood test this morning which came back negative. The NP told me to wait another two weeks and if I still hadnt started my period to come back and take another blood test. I took 3 more HPT on monday the 20th and all three came back negative (all three brands Smile) So we shall see what happens.

It sounds like you are probably pretty safe in saying your not pregnant. I'm gladyou got a blood test. My guess is your body is adjusting to long term birth control use. Good luck!
