Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
There is possibility that you have occasional ovulation even if you have irregular periods (irregular periods are usually associated with anovulatory cycles). If pregnancy is suspected, you should consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist at the earliest for thorough examination (to confirm pregnancy related changes/signs in body) and blood/serum HCG level test (to confirm/rule out pregnancy accurately). Urine pregnancy test kits usually start showing positive results after about 20 days post-conception (roughly corresponding to about 1 week after your missed/altered periods). The test should always be done on early morning first urine sample to get accurate results (pregnancy hormone HCG is believed to be in highest concentration in this sample, and you should avoid lot of fluid intake and caffeinated beverages in the night before taking the test).
If pregnancy gets ruled out, further evaluation would be needed to look for the cause for irregular periods. Possibilities of hormonal derangements/imbalances, thyroid hormone abnormality, endometrial hyperplasia, ovarian cysts, anemia, bleeding disorders, etc cannot be ruled out. The exact cause can only be made out after careful evaluation. Treatment as appropriate (based on examination findings and investigations results) would be started to help you to regulate your periods and get pregnant. Consider being in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Drink plenty of water. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle.
Take care.
