Hi I am 50 and have discovered that I have colostrum production (no, I'm not pregnant). GP ordered hormone, TSH, LFT, cholesterol, FBS, panel and I have asked for a bone density scan, and the results will be in a week. I had a Mirena IUD inserted in Oct 09. Could this be causing the colostrum production? Any ideas?

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
Along with your other test results, consider getting a Prolactin, LH, FSH levels test done. If Prolactin levels are found to be high, it will be the reason for the milk/colostrums production. Further investigations to confirm/rule out Prolactinoma or pituitary adenoma may be needed. Discuss about these possibilities with your treating doctor/gynecologist and proceed with further management based on the investigation results.
Take care.

Thank You Dr Paul for your info on prolactinoma
Thank you for your reply, Dr. Yes, prolactin and the other hormones are being tested for, but my GP hasn't mentioned what this could be. so it's good to have an idea so I am prepared. The blood test results should be ready early next week. I have researched prolactinoma and I do have more symptoms than just the colostrum, like headache, stomach upset and nausea and not so much vision changes but aching eyeballs (probably from the headaches). I haven't thought too much of it, only started noticing it, but didn't mention it to my GP...
Thank you for your thoughts. Have a great evening.
