In a word Yes it's normal.

It will scab over and go a little manky mine did (went a little green if I remember rightly).

Whatever you do, don't pick it as it will take a LOT longer to heal. My sister found that putting something frozen on it kept the swelling down and she didn't scar.

If the itching gets too much take something like an anti histammine as it will reduce the itching like it does for hayfever sympotoms.
