Q: Hysterectomy and menstruation
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 3rd, 2008
i had a partial hysterectomy 2 years ago. just my uterus was removed. everything was perfect till last month when i started to get some cramping, lower back pain and some light spotting. it is a watery, pink. it lasted a few days and then went away. saw the doctor, she couldnt find anything, so i just dismissed it. now, one month later, its back. i also have been having yeast infection symptoms. itching and the cheese like discharge. around the time this all started, 2 months ago, i began a new relationship and he is uncircumsised. i have never had experience with this before and am not ruling out anything. i have had full std testing, hiv testing, urinalisis and an internal. when i had the hysterectomy the doctor stated i would not ever bleed again. that doctor is no longer around so i went to a new one and she said because i still had the rest of my parts i may still bleed. i got 2 different stories and am confused. is spotting normal? can you shed any light on this? thank you, jenn

Partial hysterectomy means that only the body of the uterus was removed and cervix remained. If part of the uterus’s isthmus is kept menstrual cycle remains. So, this monthly spotting could be a menstruation. If spotting lasts longer than usual menstruation it could be something else.
You didn’t tell me why your uterus was removed and what the pathological report was after the surgery.
You can consult some gynecologist about this.
