Hysterectomy Answer A6938

The reason for the hysterectomy might have been helpful. The data you provided (spotting or bleeding many years after hysterectomy) is considered pathological and needs further examination. There might be several causes for unexpected spotting. You might have polyps somewhere in the vagina (most commonly found on the cervix as cervical polyps) that are more or less torn.

Other conditions like endometriosis (a disorder in which tissue which ressembles the inner lining of the uterus is found out of the uterus) might be a reason for this. The spotting in endometriosis might repeat in a particular part of the menstrual cycle and might be associated with pain located in the lower abdomen originating from an ovary.

More serious conditions like tumors have to be considered when determining the reason for the spotting.

You might want to visit your gynecologist for a physical examination of the vagina which would reveal the exact cause of the spotting. An ultrasound scan might show distant changes caused by the same reason and is also required in certain cases.
