I was diagnosed as hypo years ago and put on a fairly small dose of Synthroid. Over the couple years I took it, I constantly put on weight that I couldn't get off, felt 'out of it', had horrible heart palpitations for hours after taking the Synthroid and had no energy at all. Add in irregular periods (which I'd never had before) and my symptoms were exactly what are described for untreated hypo. But my THS was testing at around 1 or less.
I stopped taking the Synthroid and was off of it for 3 months before being tested again. I haven't felt this good since before I started taking the Synthroid! My energy is back, I don't gain 2 pounds after eating a single candy bar, I can lose weight like a normal person through diet and exercise, my periods are normal and, mos importantly since heart disease runs in my family, I no longer have heart palpitations.
But. My THS is up to 5.86 and my doctor's assistant says it's too high. I'm loath to go back on Synthroid; I'd frankly rather live with a "bad" THS level and feel good!
My question is - is there a danger here I don't know or understand? How can my thyroid not be working right when I feel better without the Synthroid?
