Q: Hypotension and cervical spondylosis
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 23rd, 2009
What do these symptoms indicate? Over the years I occasionally experience sudden and very severe lightheadedness, naseau, flushed heat face, feeling of impending fainting, general weakness. I must sit down in order to overcome it. This occurs about 2 times a year. I have had stress tests but have passed but so did my mother and borhter who both had massive heart attacks.

Neurological Disorders Answer A5501

List of other diseases, conditions, or injuries and their treatment: diabetes (mother) heart disease (mother, brother) cholesterol (mother, sister, brother) cancer (father) high blood pressure (mother) depression (mother, brother)

According to the symptoms you report you might be experiencing hypotension. Hypotension is characterized with a feeling of losing consciousness, possible black out in front of your eyes, general weakness. These symptoms occur due to the hypo perfusion in various parts of the body. Very similar symptoms can be found in cervical spondylosis due to the pressure on the big neck arteries that supply with blood the posterior part of the brain which is responsible for balance.

You might want to visit your family doctor for your blood pressure or an orthopedist for the cervical spondylosis.
