I had a hysterectomy in June,1997 and was thrown into surgical menopause. I developed high blood pressure a few weeks later. (My blood pressure has always been low to normal all of my life. My heart is healthy.) For more than 12 years, I've been battling trying to get my blood pressure under control so that I can once again enjoy my life. I've been on 28 different medications -- all of which my body rejects. I have serious side effects (pounding heart, wheezing, irregular heartbeat, racing heart, etc.) My body doesn't respond like everyone else's when it comes to BP meds. I have spent a fortune on medicines and Doctor -- trying to find someone who understands my distressing problem. I've even tried herbal supplements, and still nothing works for a lengthy period of time. I am on a low sodium diet, eat right and exercise. This has been very frustrating and devastating. I am trying to figure out what my next step should be. I even had a doctor ask me if I wanted to die because he thought that I just didn't want to take the medications. If only I could turn back the clock. Having a hysterectomy took away my life. Where should I go for help? I'd greatly appreciate your advice.

I had the same surgery as you had at age 47, and I was never affected by it...However, I have been on strong blood pressure medication since age 28...This was after my third and final child was born...It runs in my family so I accept this...Each of us deals with life in a different way...Why distress?...It's there and probably will never go away....Learn to live with it and just plain love life...I look at my Hysterectomy as opening a new door to my life...No more periods, plus all the added bonuses...Many people live with this...Sometimes you can't change, what you can't change...I can tell you one thing and that is your constant worry will make it worse....Good luck...
