I have been on birth controll for about 5 years. I am getting married the end of May and was expecting my period while on my honeymoon. Begining with my cycle in April, I skipped the placebo row of pills. I did not have a period. I began the next set of pills and during the 2nd week began experiencing some spotting. I skipped the placebo week again and started the 1st week of pills this week. I'm still spotting. Should I be concerned? What should I do?

You shouldn’t start skipping the periods so soon when your honeymoon is at the end of May. You can start skipping the placebo pills during the last cycle (during the honeymoon). Chances for spotting grow with the number of periods you skip. By skipping the periods you prevent desquamation and provoke hyperplasia (overgrowth) of the endometrium. You indicated you will skip the third period during the honeymoon. The more periods you skip, the bigger hyperplasia you will get. Hyperplasia of the endometrium is manifested with unexpected spotting with variable amounts of bleeding. You may experience heavier bleeding at any time even during the honeymoon. It is hard to give you any advice in this case because bleeding in the case of endometrial hyperplasia is totally unpredictable. You may need to take progesterone pills to prevent further hyperplasia and bleeding. Another option is to stop the pills now, get your period and then continue with a new pack.

You MUST consult your gynecologist about this!!!
