Q: Hyper production of female sex hormone
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 30th, 2009
im 23 yrs old and in may 09 i had some cramping everyday, which led to one day after intercourse i was in extreme pain in my ovaries, i could not breathe, everything went numb, i was so hot so fast i wanted to throw up and pass out. I was taken to emerg and i was too tense they could not do that lovely test to look inside me. I ha inner and outer ultra sounds, they found nothing, i went to my family doctor he did a PAP test and noticed my ovaries were swollen and extremely sensitive more than they should be. Sine then, i have constant cramps every day, I am on the pill. And I have had the incident happen 6 times since then and i JUST had it happen again. I get EXTREME pains, i can't move, my legs go numb, i over heat i can hardly breather and the pains come when i am turned on, or during/after sex. I know this is not normal or right. And it does not happen every time i have sex, it seems to be random but extremely painful, what could it be that is causing it?

According to the data you reported (pain in the ovaries during or after intercourse, swollen ovaries detected on ultrasound, legs going numb, cramping, on YAZ birth control pill), it seems likely that you might be experiencing a condition related to the ovaries.

It is very important to check whether the pain is related to a certain part of the menstrual cycle (before or after ovulation or menstrual period). This might indicate a connection with hormonal changes occurring during the menstrual cycle.

The swelling of the ovaries might be related to inflammation of the ovaries called oophoritis. Hyper production of female sex hormones might also be a consequence of enlarged ovaries especially if their size is caused by stimulating hormones produced from other places, for example, from the pituitary gland. The increased female sex hormones might be responsible for the pain during or after intercourse.

You might want to visit your gynecologist and have your hormones checked with laboratory tests. It might reveal hyper production. Additional tests (CT scan or MRI) might be needed to detect the actual cause for the increased production of the hormones.
