Q: HSV-1 transmission to my boyfriend during oral sex?

This evening at dinner I noticed that a little bump had appeared below the skin of my lip. It hasn't started tingling yet, but I believe I am getting a cold sore (I've had them before).

I'm scared because last night--about 20 hours before I first noticed this bump--I performed oral sex on my boyfriend. Could I have already been contagious then? Please help--if there's any chance of him getting HSV-1 in his genital area I will let him know ASAP.
