I had a HSG test on what I thought was day 8 of my cycle. My period was a little different to normal in that it was only 1.5 days long and it's normally 2-3 days long, also it was only red on day 1 and then was dark brown and clots for a few days after. My period was also around 7 days earlier then I expected but my cycles can vary anywhere from 25 to 36 days but on average they are 33. After I had the HSG test I started testing my ovulation straight away as I didn't want to miss and due to my cycles being varied I wanted to test for the whole month. Every ovulation test came back positive which seemed odd as I was in the beginning of my cycle. Today I did two pregnancy tests as I read somewhere that a positive ovulation test could mean a positive pregnancy, both pregnancy test have come back positive and now I'm very worried as that means I must have been pregnant when I had the HSG. The Dr advised they used about 5mls of the radioactive dye and from what I can gather I ovulated 16 days prior to the HSG test. Does this mean I could miscarry or that I have harmed the fetus in any way? I'm very worried.

Both miscarriage and harm to the baby are posible from the test. There is really no way to know how this will affect your pregnancy. While the test does increase the chances of miscarriage or problems, it does not mean 100% that there will be a problem. I came across this article about several pregnancies in which the women received the test before they realized they were pregnant. http://humrep.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/conte nt/full/18/12/2608
I hope there are no ill effects from the test. Good luck.
