Q: HPV

My boyfriend has HPV. We have not yet been intimate. I am in my 40's, so I am not a candidate for the HPV vaccine at this time. I have never shown signs of having HPV (although I know as many as 80% of adults do have this infection). Is there a way to find out if I already have the latent virus, and / or is there any way to become a 'test subject' for the vaccine's use on older subjects?

Since you appear to have done your research, are you aware that testing for HPV during pap smears only recently started. Some doctors don't do it unless a request is made by you. You very well could have HPV already. You need to ask to be tested for it at your next pap smear.

What kind of HPV does your boyfriend have? The low risk kind (that causes genital warts) or the high risk kind (that can lead to cervical cancer)? It is unlikely he would know he had the latter unless a previous partner of his had it. There is no way to test men for high risk HPV yet.

Good luck.
