Hi. Im 16 now and for as long as I can remember, I get nervous about doing a lot of things. The problem is that when I get nervous, I feel sick, and then most of the time I am sick, especially when I know I am going to have to eat!

Its always had an impact on my social life, and now I just feel that its getting too much and that I should do something about it because Im starting to turn down more invitations out to be social, because Im scared that I'll be sick.

So, my question is - What can I do to help this? I know its not going to be quick or easy, but Im very determined to beat this and let me be me again.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Welcome to the ehealth forum and we are glad to lend you a helping hand. Your concern is regarding the nervousness that makes you sick. The symptoms that you have described seem like anxiety neurosis. It is a series of symptoms, which arise from faulty adaptation to the stresses and strain of life.

It makes sense to consult a psychiatrist as you might need medications for the anxiety and maybe a round of psychologic counseling. Treatment options include cognitive behaviour therapy, medicines like SSRI’s, benzodiazepines and psychological counseling.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
