Hello,

My 52yr old husband was diagnosed with colon cancer this past Tuesday. The colonoscopy found a 4" tumor in thishe sigmoid. He is scheduled for surgery in just under a month from now.

His doctor does not want to do a pre-surgical CT scan, but does want to have one done after his surgery. I am concerned that the cancer is more advanced than he is letting on. Could this be a reason why he wouldn't want to have pre-scan?

Is a CT scan the only way they can stage his cancer? The doc said they would have to open him up, do pathology on nearby lymph nodes and a CT scan to determine his current stage. When I asked the dr for his opinion on my husband's current condition, he felt he was probably a stage II or III. From reading what I could find online, the size of his tumor seems to be quite large and probably has been there for at least a couple of years.

This surgeon is very good at what he does and comes highly recommended, but I can't help but think he is holding back. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.
