Menopause is the time when the reproductive capability of woman starts diminishing as the ovaries do not produce egges and thus menstrual cycle gradually decreases and finally stops also leading to decrease in the female hormones.This time period can be different in every woman and can start as early as late thirties to late fifties.
It depends on many factors as hormonal levels,genetics,family history.With the changes in the environment some woman have reported menopause even before 40.
Since you have not mentioned the symptoms which you are experiening it is difficult to comment.Kindly visit a Gynaecologist for detailed evaluation.
