How much do your kids eat.. Posted: 02-29-08 17:46pm
Brayden is 12 months old and I was just
wondering how much other kids around his
age eat and such. Some times I feel like
he isn't eating enough. He is offered
many different things, all things he has
ate and likes but sometimes he refuses to
eat them. For breakfast he likes YoBaby
yogurt (one thing he will almost always
eat!) but on the days I try offer him
something else he eats a little but won't
eat what I would think is enough to fill
him up. I think more ends up on the floor
then in his mouth! He LOVES veggies and
sometimes he eats like 98% veggies for
dinner and only a few bites of the 'main
course'. I know that should be a good
thing that he likes veggies so well but
don't know if I should be concerned that
he is not eating other things?
Anyways what I'm getting at is, how much
should a child this age be eating?

at finn's 15-month appointment his doctor
said at this age they usually eat one good
meal a day.
finn eats 2 good meals a day, breakfast
and lunch. on a typical day he'll get a
waffle and a banana for breakfast with a
cup of milk. lunch is usually some sort of
fruit with half a jelly sandwich with a
cup of milk. he gets whatever we're having
for dinner and his last cup of milk, but
he really doesn't eat much (tonight he
only ate his peas). he also gets a morning
snack with V8 fusion (1 cup has 2 servings
of fruits and veggies), and an afternoon
snack that's usually YoBaby.
anyway, sorry for going on there. i know
finn's a few months older but he's been
eating like this for awhile now.
personally, i think they'll eat when
they're hungry and if they're not
interested, they must not be hungry. i do
wish finn would eat more at dinner because
i don't like to think he's hungry during
the night, but he never wakes up so he
must be fine.
oh, finn also gets a daily vitamin (a
gummi flintstone).

Thanks, I figured it was normal I just
wanted ot make sure. Sometimes I think he
is going to starve because all he eats is
the veggies (greenbeans mainly).
How does finn like the V8? I was just
watching a commercial for that tonight and
was thinking about picking some up for
brayden! I don't know if he would like it
or not..

he *loves* his V8! it's the light fusion
kind, they have different fruity flavors.
his favorite is strawberry banana. if you
get the light, not only does it have 2
servings of fruit and veggies, it also has
50% less sugar than the regular. it's a
little pricey so i only buy it on sale and
stock up.

Great! Maybe we will give it a try! I
know I tried it once, when they first came
out with it and I didn't like it much but
I bet he'd love it to!

val eats like a little piggy, shes only 9
months and she has a tub of stage 2 foods
with rice mixed in then another tub of
just rice or oatmeal (i fill it back up
after its empty) or a stage 3 and then a
small bowl of cereal, she eats that 3
times a day has a bottle with the morning
one a cup of water with the afternoon one
(then a bottle a little later) and a cup
of water with the dinner one (and a bottle
at then she has 2
snakes one between breakfast and lunch and
one between lunch and dinner (usualy like
a cinnimon crackers or friut or little
puff things)
i cant wait until i can start giving her
real foods....for now thats all we can do
because it is SO hard trying to find real
foods without milk or soy....or corn, for
some reason she always breaks out from
corn, i have a few things she can eat but
not a lot lol
on the original note, im sure hes not
gonna starve himself so relax a little
(easier said then done i know trust me)
just keep offering the food and let him
eat when he wants to

Yeah the others are right. He won't
starve. Just make what he eats healthy
and he'll be fine. They go through stages
that they don't seem to eat anything and
other times they eat like hogs.

toddlers are tough.
Oni used to eat LOTS...se's have 3/4 BIG
meals a day.
When she turned like 17 months, that
changed.
She wasn't goin for the same thing
everyday. She wanted variety.
In the mornings she'll eat:
french toast sticks w/ syrup
waffles w/syrup
fruit (peaches, mandarin oranges, nanars,
fruit coctail, etc..)
oatmeal(apples & cinn)
grits & eggs
yoplait yogurt
toaster struddles
pop tarts
Basically she eats something different
everyday. Maybe you could try swapping his
choices up!
Oh, and for breakfast you can do this. In
a bowl mix his yogurt with about a
tablespoon of oatmeal cereal.
I did that for Oni after she got sick and
lost lots of weight. It works WONDERS with
filling them up!
It's good if he's eating his veggies.
And the v8 is deeee-lish! Oni gets milk
with every meal, and crystal light in
between!
Oni's also on a vitamin. It's the
poly.vi.sol for toddlers!

Thanks girls! I liked when he was on baby
food because I knew how much he was
consuming and now its just kind of
guessing how much gets into his mouth! I
guess it just seemed like he was eating
more before like when he was on babyfood
but maybe not..
Thanks for posting kind of what your kids
eat, it helps me with ideas!
Brayden gets quite a variety to. Except
when it comes to veggies, we ALWAYS have
greenbeans because they are both his and
my favorites! But he also gets other types
too.
Thanks for the yogurt idea sara! I never
really thought about doing that! We get
the YoBaby that has like fruit and stuff
in it but never crossed my mind to add
more things!!

william has breakfast which he doesnt eat
all of. he has lunch but if its a sandwich
hes very picky and leaves most of the
bread. at dinner, he eats it all which is
a big meal and he usually has afters
afterwards. he has snacks in between
aswell, like an apple and biscuit etc

i know its great, but shes gonna be on
mostly babyfood until at least a year if
not 18 months (obviously she does get some
real food but thats not her whole meal)
because i have to be so careful and
monitor EVERYTHING that goes into her
mouth so it is just a LOT easier and as
long as she still likes it ya know

From 12-14 months Ava didn't eat much at
all. She'd graze, but not even that. I'd
stress sooo much about it.
Well at 14 months, she started eating like
crazy! She eats a good breakfast and
either a good lunch or a good supper.
Seldom does she eat all of her 3 meals.
The last 3 nights, she's pretty much
refused supper, but she drinks her milk
cup. She too gets 3 cups of milk a day,
one with each meal.
It can take up to 10 times I think for
them to like a new food. She'll get stuck
on something she LOVES, then not want it
anymore.
She also loves the V-8 fusion. I buy it
all the time and just dilute it with
water. I recently switched to the light,
so I probably don't have to dilute it.
I got my neice hooked on it too.
OH and she also eats snacks all day. She
likes goldfish, dry cereal, and fruits.
Also, she doesn't really eat meat at all.
She prefers her veggies.
